The Joy of Tech's choice for Download of the Year is often controversial, especially in this, its first year. But one must keep in mind that the criterion is the person or thing that has had the greatest impact on the web for good or ill. After much debate and consideration, we have chosen Steve Ballmer's MonkeyBoy video performance as Download of the Year 2001. "Rarely has so improbable a CEO shaken the web stage, and with such abandonment. Ballmer's performance, both shocking and exhilarating, sets a new standard for keynotes.
